When people imagine studying in Australia, they just see the pictures on social media of beaches, coffee, and relaxed classes. But the reality of living in Australia as International Student is a mix of early mornings, a lot of deadlines, part time work, and moments that make all headache and motivate all international students organised their activities well.
I have been living and studying in Adelaide for a while. Now, I have learned that balance is the secret to surviving and enjoying in university life abroad. Now, I am going to share what a typical day in my life looks like as an international Uni student from study sessions to part time work, and other activities.
Morning Routine: Waking Up, Making breakfast, Journalling ⏰
My morning routine usually starts around 7. 30 AM. I try to keep my first hour after waking up to do not looking emails, TikTok scrolls, and I just spend my time on breakfast. Sometimes I like listening to music while sipping my hot chocolate.
By 8 AM, I start creating plan my day using Google Calendar. I list my top three priorities such as one academic, one personal, and one creative. This little habit keeps my day balanced between study, self-care, and content creation.
Midday: Having Class, Socialising, and Studying 📚
University life here is very independent, and the professors expect you to take charge of your own learning. Between lectures and tutorials, I do study at the campus in Library with my laptop, notebook, and headphones.
I use the Pomodoro method of having 25-minutes study and 5 minutes break. During breaks, I usually scroll TikTok or chat with friends to refresh my mind.
If I have long gaps between classes, I will film my content creation for my social media for StudyWithGisella content. Australia has such calm, beautiful light during the day for getting good habits.
Afternoon: Part Time Work & Productivity 🤦🏻♀️
As everyone knows that international students allow to have Part time Job with minimum 48 hours fortnightly during studying periods. I usually have my shifts start around 4 PM till 10 PM for 3 days shifts a week.
Before heading to work, I always bring my food and water. Staying hydrated keeps my energy up, especially when I must stay on my feet for hours.
Well, I can say it is okay to feel tired sometimes. Uni life is not about being productive, but it is about finding what pace works for you in the future.
Evening: Winding Down & Reflection
By the time I get home, it is usually dark. I should have shower, make dinner (usually something simple like rice with chicken), and sometimes making smoothies. This quiet moment helps me unwind after a long day.
Before bed, I journal about one thing I learned and one thing I’m grateful for. Sometimes it is big activity that I face up and sometimes it is small activates that I can have long day offs. Writing Journal helps me stay mindful and remind myself why I started this journey.
What Uni Life Has Taught Me 📚
Studying abroad is not always perfect reality to see. There are moments of homesickness, tight budgets, and stress. But there are also friendships, sunsets after class, and that proud feeling when you finish an assignment early.
University life in Australia has taught me resilience, self-discipline, and the beauty of small routines. If you are starting Uni soon or already in the middle of it, please remember that you are not alone in feeling overwhelmed. Take one day at a time to do day off to recharge your energy.
